Wildspring ecology aims to provide a solution to adaptive management's logistical challenges. Adaptive management is conservation practiced under the uncertainty implicit in complex ecological systems. Human institutions, contracting and funding cycles generally don’t align with ecological processes and lack the flexibility to respond quickly to emergent issues. As a sole proprietorship I have flexibility that larger institutions lack. I offer services including project management and coordination, boots on the ground monitoring, professional data analysis and report writing.
My name is Spring Strahm and I am Wildspring Ecology. I have been working in ecology and conservation for more than 20 years. In that time, I have done everything from digging holes and planting plants (restoration) to setting up eddy covariance towers in the arctic (climate change studies). I am particularly keen on soils, fire, vegetation community structure, rare plants, butterflies, and pathogens of oaks. I’m alarmingly passionate about study design (e.g. maximum rigor for minimum cost), data analysis, and graphical representation of data. I believe that effective conservation is fueled by informed monitoring, data analysis, and people. My approach to leadership in conservation is as a servant and helper.
